Issues (2020)

    The most important issues are the construction of the new high school and hiring a new superintendent.

    Both of these require keeping the public informed and engaged in the processes. I believe these will be the primary focus for the next several years.

    In addition, things I will continue to work on:

    • Continue the facilities work started this year, by meeting in each building to discuss what has been accomplished, what is going on and what is planned with regard to each facility;
    • Continue to support the High School Building Committee and its work in communicating with the public on a regular basis;
    • Working on an open productive search for new superintendent;
    • Supporting the continued social growth with Arlington and Boston families, Bridging 2 Communities Program; and
    • Supporting all of our teachers.

Others on-going:

Common Core  - http://www.doe.mass.edu/candi/commoncore/

RETELL - http://www.doe.mass.edu/retell/

PARCC - http://www.parcconline.org/about-parcc
Create an assessment system and supporting tools that will help states dramatically increase the number of students who graduate high school ready for college and careers and provide students, parents, teachers and policymakers with the tools they need to help students – from grade three through high school - stay on track to graduate prepared. For more information on the PARCC assessment design, development and implementation, go to www.parcconline.org

District Determined Measures
DDMs are defined as “measures of student learning, growth, and achievement related to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, Massachusetts Vocational Technical Education Frameworks, or other relevant frameworks, that are comparable across grade or subject level district-wide. These measures may include, but shall not be limited to: portfolios, approved commercial assessments and district-developed pre and post unit and course assessments, and capstone projects.” 603 CMR 35.02.
